Lagos Authorities Detain 8 For Reselling Discarded Turkey From Customs Dump....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Lagos State Task Force has apprehended eight individuals for selling contaminated turkey seized by the Nigeria Customs Service.

According to the agency’s spokesperson, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, a raid conducted in Epe revealed that “dozens of cartons filled with contaminated turkey seized and incinerated by the Nigeria Customs Service at a dumpsite somehow ended up in the possession of unscrupulous individuals attempting to sell them to the public.”

Acting on tips from Lagos State House of Assembly member Rasheed Shabi and the Oloja of Epe, Oba Kamorudeen Animashaun, Task Force officials conducted a raid near the dumpsite, arresting eight suspects found with the contaminated turkey and harmful weapons.

Oba Kamorudeen praised the Task Force for its quick response, emphasizing that unchecked, the situation could have led to a nationwide health crisis. “I am relieved this issue has been addressed promptly. With the state already combating a cholera outbreak in parts of the metropolis, we must avoid exacerbating the situation. It’s our duty to prevent sinister forces from creating further crises for their selfish interests,” he stated.

CSP Adetayo Akerele, the Chairman of the Agency, who led the operation, explained that goods confiscated by the Nigeria Customs Service had failed to meet health and safety standards, leading to their destruction at a dumpsite.

“We cannot permit these condemned products to re-enter the market. Contaminated foods like these pose severe health risks, including cancer, lung disease, and liver disease. Our mission is to ensure the safety of Lagosians at all costs,” he said.
