According to Naija News, this decision was made during an emergency convention held by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing Worldwide, which includes youth groups from the South East and Igbo-speaking areas of Delta and Rivers states.

Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, the National Leader of the Ohanaeze Youth Wing, underscored the reasons for potential protest, such as the long-standing marginalization of the Igbo, the detention of figures like Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and the destruction of Igbo property in cities like Lagos and Abuja. He also criticized the lack of representation and infrastructure in the South East, noting that the region has the fewest states compared to others.

Despite these grievances, Okpalaezeukwu expressed concern about the risks of protests, particularly the potential damage to Igbo properties. He questioned the benefit of a protest that could lead to further harm to their community.

The Ohanaeze youth leader articulated clear demands: the release of all detained Igbo youths, inclusion of Igbo youths in government positions, and the creation of an additional state in the South East. He also called for a meeting between South East Governors and Igbo youths.

Okpalaezeukwu expressed a desire to present these issues directly to President Tinubu, stressing the aim of protecting Igbo youths from harm and ensuring their grievances are addressed without the disruptions a protest could bring.

The convention concluded with a majority vote supporting the decision not to participate in the proposed protest, as announced by Okpalaezeukwu.
