The chairmen, affiliated with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (Rivers State chapter), threatened to retaliate by targeting Fubara’s properties. They claimed that Fubara directed the protesters to Wike’s home on Ada George Road, where they chanted war songs and hurled insults. The protestors attempted to breach Wike’s mansion but were thwarted by police presence.
Chidi Lloyd, a former Chairman of the Emuoha Local Government Area, stated, “We are aware that Fubara instigated the attack on Wike’s residence. We will mobilize our supporters to target his properties on Forces Avenue. Fubara does not have the power to intimidate us. We know his properties and those of his allies, and we are ready to act.”
Lloyd criticized Fubara for alleged mismanagement of state funds and warned that further provocations could jeopardize his position as governor. He urged the public to question Fubara about the N238 billion collected between May and June.
In response, State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, dismissed the chairmen’s accusations as irrelevant. He described them as meddling in matters beyond their concern and claimed they were trying to create unrest. Johnson alleged that the former chairmen have been holding secret meetings to incite a state of emergency and characterized their actions as the “last kick of a dying horse,” asserting that their tenure has ended and the courts have pronounced their political influence as over.
