The award was formally presented to AKSU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nse Essien, during a visit to the university’s main campus on Tuesday. Dr. Felicia Umanah, Faculty Advisor for the ACS AKSU Chapter, and Dr. Uwem Ubong, Head of the Department of Chemistry, praised Ukpe for her exceptional poster presentation, which stood out among 100 competitors.
Prof. Essien acknowledged the significance of chemistry and encouraged the ACS AKSU Chapter to employ teaching methods that make chemistry more engaging and relevant to students, particularly focusing on its practical and entrepreneurial aspects.
Ukpe, who also serves as Secretary of the ACS AKSU Chapter, thanked the Vice-Chancellor and university management for the opportunity to present her research in Thailand. Her study, which examined the impact of Green Chemistry and traditional laboratory approaches on students’ understanding of Le Chatelier’s Principle, utilized a quasi-experimental research design. She also expressed gratitude to the American Chemical Society for their support and sponsorship, which made her participation possible.
