This partnership was formalized during a courtesy visit from AHCN President Eno Obongha and his team to the ministry, as revealed by the ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Salisu Haiba.

The joint effort aims to combat homelessness and ensure that all Nigerians have access to affordable and decent housing in secure environments.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, emphasized the program’s goal of increasing the availability of affordable housing across the country. “The Renewed Hope Housing Programme was designed to significantly enhance the stock of affordable housing in Nigeria,” Dangiwa stated. He assured that no projects under the program would be abandoned, stressing a commitment to completing all housing developments.

Dangiwa also highlighted the importance of using high-quality, locally sourced building materials in construction, to ensure both the quality of the housing and the boost of the local economy. “Despite our aim to provide affordable housing, we will not compromise on quality. We will use top-grade local materials to build homes that meet Nigerians’ needs and support local industries,” he said.

Additionally, the minister expressed support for the AHCN’s Agric-Villages Scheme, which seeks to integrate agriculture into housing development. This initiative aims to use farmland in rural areas to create job opportunities and facilitate affordable housing access. Dangiwa noted that this scheme will be part of the National Social Housing Fund initiative, which the ministry is implementing.

Obongha, on behalf of the AHCN, reiterated the association’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda, pledging to provide about 15 hectares of land in each senatorial district for housing projects. He also sought the minister’s support for State Housing Corporations to access Housing Development Funds through mortgages and proposed that at least 20% of the building materials for these projects be locally sourced to encourage economic growth and sustainability.
