In February, the Federal Executive Council (FEC), under President Tinubu, approved a plan to fully implement the Oronsaye report, which proposed merging, scrapping, or relocating several parastatals, agencies, and commissions. An eight-man committee was established to provide recommendations on these changes within 12 weeks. However, six months have passed without any visible progress on the implementation.
The Oronsaye report aims to cut government costs and enhance efficiency across various sectors. Originally, the committee was formed in 2011 by then-President Goodluck Jonathan, with Steve Oronsaye as chairman. The report, submitted on April 16, 2012, highlighted inefficiencies and overlaps among the 541 federal agencies, recommending a reduction to 161, the abolition of 38, and the merger of 52.
