The governor highlighted that the project had been stalled for over 11 years, during which Obokun and three other local government areas experienced significant hardships, including frequent blackouts and economic losses. Adeleke revealed that the state had prepared a draft electricity bill and policy aimed at enhancing power generation and distribution, and instructed the Ministry of Energy to create a detailed implementation plan with specific timelines.
“Our plan is to overhaul the state’s energy sector through effective policies and legislation,” Adeleke stated. “Osun’s draft electricity bill and policy, once enacted, will revolutionize our power sector.”
He emphasized the state’s potential to harness its river and solar assets for electricity generation, announcing plans to issue licenses for power generation and regulate the Ibadan DisCo. A new regulatory agency will also be established to oversee the state’s power sector, manage generator-purchaser relationships, and ensure efficient power distribution.
Adeleke underscored the importance of reliable power supply for economic development and congratulated the residents of Obokun Local Government and other benefiting communities. He specifically mentioned Omi Aladiye, Akad, Ilesa-Osogbo road settlements, Igbajo, Kajola, and Osunjela, affirming that the project would bring significant improvements to these areas.
Energy Commissioner Festus Adeyemo noted that the project would benefit communities across Obokun, Ilesa West, Atakumosa West, and Boluwaduro Local Governments.
