Renowned Sokoto cleric Sheikh Bashar Danfili has disclosed a harrowing account involving bandits who abducted six of his relatives, killed their driver, and fed his remains to their dogs.

In a social media post, Sheikh Danfili shared that the victims—comprising a man, his mother, stepmother, two wives, and his sister—were seized while traveling to an undisclosed village.

The bandits demanded a substantial ransom, which the cleric’s family is unable to meet, and they have set a looming deadline.

“They were ambushed and kidnapped while en route to a village. Their driver was killed immediately, and his flesh was used to feed the bandits’ dogs,” the cleric recounted. “The rest of the family members are still held captive.”

The bandits’ ransom demand is in the millions of Naira, which the cleric, who is a scholar with limited financial means, cannot afford. “I am only able to teach from the books behind me; I do not have the means to pay this amount,” he explained. “We have been given a deadline to pay or face the risk of losing all of them, a threat made even more credible by the recent killing of a traditional ruler in the state.”
