Adamawa Court Sentences 15 Shila Boys For Extortion And Thuggery

In a ruling by Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Yola, Adamawa State, 15 individuals known as Shila Boys have been sentenced to prison terms ranging from one to five years for various offenses. The convictions came after the accused were found guilty of crimes including extortion, receiving stolen property, thuggery, criminal conspiracy, and causing grievous harm.

Magistrate Abbas Adamu handed down sentences with Umar Abubakar and Sadam Yakubu each receiving five years in prison, with Abubakar having an option to pay a fine of N120,000 and Yakubu N150,000. Other defendants include Abdulrahaman Tasiu, Abdulazeez Mohammed, Aliyu Bala, John Josiah, Rabiu Adamu, and Anas Adamu, who received sentences between two and three years without the option of fines.

Osama Adamu, Haruna Musa, Mujahid Saidu, and Abdulrahaman Usman were sentenced to three and two years, respectively, with fines of N150,000. Aliyu Umar, Abdullahi Isa, and Shettima Mohammed were also given two-year sentences with varying fine options.

Shila Boys, a notorious gang known for targeting GSM phones in Adamawa State, operate primarily in Yola and occasionally in other urban areas like Mubi and Numan. They often use light weapons to snatch phones from residents.
