President Bola Tinubu concluded his official visit to China with a meeting with Nigerians residing in the country. He described the trip as “very good and successful.”

Speaking to members of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO China) and the Nigerian community at the China World Hotel in Beijing, Tinubu highlighted the achievements made during his engagements.

“My primary message is for you to continue being exemplary citizens and good ambassadors of Nigeria. We will always celebrate our diversity, but it comes with a responsibility to serve. To serve well, we must first be good citizens,” the President urged.

Reflecting on his discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, Tinubu emphasized plans to boost cooperation in areas like infrastructure, trade, finance, energy, the green economy, and mining. He also praised China’s disciplined society as something Nigeria could draw lessons from.

“China is a highly disciplined society, and we must adopt a similar mindset. Without discipline, we cannot build a nation that commands respect worldwide,” Tinubu stated.

He called on Nigerians in China to contribute positively to the country’s image and development through hard work and legal compliance. “We must use our diversity to our advantage, follow the law, and project a positive image of Nigeria,” he said.

Tinubu also assured the diaspora that Nigeria’s Bank of Industry is ready to work with them to tap into opportunities at home. He addressed recent economic reforms, saying bold decisions, such as adjustments to fuel pricing, were necessary for infrastructure and development goals.

“Nigeria is undergoing significant reforms. For instance, the changes in fuel prices at home – while difficult, they are crucial for development. We need good roads, reliable electricity, and quality schools. Without tough decisions, we can’t achieve this,” he noted.

The President lauded the talents of Nigerians in China, particularly those fluent in Mandarin, and highlighted the role they could play in changing perceptions back home. He emphasized that development requires effort and sacrifice, promising to replicate China’s infrastructure advancements in Nigeria.

“We want our children to attend good schools and live in a country with quality infrastructure. My role is to provide leadership, and I am committed to doing that,” he concluded, also noting that he has a strong team to help achieve his vision for Nigeria.
