The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, has officially disassociated itself from a fraudulent Facebook account purporting to belong to Vice-Chancellor Professor Sani Usman Kunya.
The university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa, issued a statement on Monday addressing the issue. The release clarified that the Acting Vice-Chancellor had been alerted by a concerned individual about the fake Facebook profile, which appears to be designed to deceive and defraud people.
The statement detailed, “A screenshot provided by the good Samaritan showed an attempt to deceive them into transferring a significant sum of money for a supposed contract award.”
It emphasized that the Acting Vice-Chancellor does not conduct any official transactions via social media nor requests financial assistance through such platforms. Zailani Bappa further noted that Professor Kunya does not possess a Facebook account and has not authorized anyone to manage social media accounts on his behalf.
