NECO Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dantana Wushishi, shared these results at the Council’s Headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday. He reported that 1,147,597 candidates scored five credits or more, regardless of their performance in English and Mathematics, which accounts for 83.90 percent of those examined.

Out of the 1,376,423 candidates who registered, 1,367,736 sat for the exams, including 702,112 males and 665,624 females. Wushishi noted a decrease in examination malpractice, with 8,437 cases reported in 2024 compared to 12,030 in 2023, marking a reduction of 30.1 percent.

Additionally, there were 2,267 candidates with special needs, categorized as follows: 1,104 with hearing impairments, 348 with visual impairments, 342 with albinism, 237 with autism, and 236 with low vision.

During the examination, 40 schools were identified for mass cheating across 17 states, and 21 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to inadequate supervision and misconduct. One school in Ekiti State has been recommended for de-recognition due to mass cheating in multiple subjects.

In terms of state performance, Abia State led with 83.40 percent of its candidates achieving five credits, including Mathematics and English, while Katsina State ranked last with just 2.42 percent. Katsina also reported a low 42.00 percent for candidates achieving five credits, including Mathematics and English, placing it ahead of Kano State, which had 44.42 percent.
