Hoodlums Set Fire To AKISIEC Office In Akwa Ibom Amid Council Election TensionsJust hours before the start of local government elections in Akwa Ibom State, hoodlums attacked and set fire to the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) office in Ibiatuk, Ibiono Ibom local government area.

Akwa Ibom Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, confirmed the incident, noting that there were no casualties, and the electoral materials were not affected by the fire. He assured the public that the attack would not disrupt the voting process, as voters continued to cast their ballots.

ASP John also stated that the Police Command had deployed additional officers to AKISIEC offices across the state to prevent further disruptions.

However, the elections have faced challenges, such as the late arrival of electoral materials and a lack of security at some polling units. For instance, at Unit 001 in Ward 14 of Uyo local government area, materials were not available as of 10:02 a.m., and no AKISIEC or security officials were present. Similar delays were reported at Unit 2, Ward 11 in Itu local government area, reflecting concerns about the readiness for the elections.
