Yahaya Bello’s Aides Under EFCC Investigation As October Trial NearsThe Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is ramping up its investigation into several former aides of ex-Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, who served during his administration from 2016 to 2024.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Naija News, this development comes ahead of Yahaya Bello’s October 24 court appearance, which follows an adjournment in his ongoing legal battle.
The EFCC’s intensified efforts are part of their strategy to strengthen the case against Bello, who is facing charges of corruption and embezzlement of public funds during his tenure as governor. Sources cited by PM News suggest that the investigation could lead to the arrest of former aides, some of whom are currently holding positions in the present administration. These individuals are believed to have played roles in the financial misconduct linked to Bello.
Attempts to contact EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale for further details on the agency’s approach have been unsuccessful. However, insiders claim that the EFCC has collected substantial evidence beyond what has already been presented in the Federal Court case ongoing in Abuja. Despite Bello’s efforts to evade arrest for months, the agency appears determined to move the case forward.
One EFCC official stated, “We have more evidence against Bello than many are aware of. He knows we have critical information on his alleged financial mismanagement while he was governor.”
The official also mentioned that Bello’s reliance on the immunity of his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, may delay the process but will not prevent it. “Justice will be served. No one is above the law,” the official added.
Another senior EFCC official, speaking anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the case, hinted that additional charges could be filed against Bello. She suggested that new revelations may come to light during the trial, which could shift the opinions of those who have supported Bello, including lawmakers and Civil Society Organizations who previously called for the EFCC chairman’s removal.
Yahaya Bello is scheduled to face a public summons and a new 16-count charge on October 24, alongside co-defendants Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu.
