Nigeria Weather Update: NiMet Warns Of Dust Haze And Rain Over The Next Three Days

According to NiMet’s weather update released on Sunday in Abuja, the northern region is expected to experience mild dust haze on Monday, with visibility ranging between 2 to 5 kilometers. Similar hazy conditions with restricted visibility are also anticipated in the North Central area.

In southern Nigeria, the inland regions will likely experience sunny weather with hazy conditions. However, parts of Lagos, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River are expected to see light rain and thunderstorms during the morning hours. By the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with light rains are predicted in southern Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Edo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta States.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, NiMet expects slight dust haze to persist in the northern and North Central regions, with visibility remaining between 2 and 5 kilometers. The southern inland areas will experience hazy skies, while coastal regions will see cloudy conditions.

For Wednesday, the forecast suggests continued mild dust haze and reduced visibility across the northern and North Central regions. In the southern parts of the country, inland areas are expected to remain sunny and hazy, while coastal states may have cloudy patches. Later in the day, moderate rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Lagos, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom.

NiMet has urged the public, particularly those with respiratory issues, to take precautions due to the dust particles suspended in the air. Additionally, strong winds may accompany thunderstorms in regions expecting rainfall.
