Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, revealed that President Bola Tinubu plans to use the summit as a platform to address the ongoing Israel-Palestinian conflict, calling for an immediate ceasefire and pushing for a diplomatic solution. Idris stated that Nigeria believes peace can only be achieved through dialogue, rather than continued conflict.

“Nigeria’s position is clear: we must find a diplomatic resolution,” Idris told journalists in Riyadh. He further stressed that Nigeria’s involvement demonstrates its influence on the global stage and its commitment to advocating for peaceful solutions to conflicts with global repercussions.

Idris warned that without a diplomatic resolution, the conflict could escalate and potentially destabilize the entire region, with widespread global effects. He reiterated Nigeria’s long-standing support for a two-state solution, where both Israel and Palestine can exist within secure and recognized borders, ensuring peace and security for both nations.

The conflict, which escalated after a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of around 1,200 people and the capture of approximately 251 hostages, remains a major point of concern for Nigeria and the international community.
