“We are not here just to celebrate a carnival but to reaffirm who we are as Nigerians—a people of culture, art, color, and shared values,” the President said. He highlighted the central role of the carnival in showcasing Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and its growing position in the global creative economy.
The President described the country’s creativity as a key element of its identity, drawing admiration and respect on the world stage. “Our creativity continues to shine globally. This heritage represents the true essence of what it means to be Nigerian: proud, resourceful, and innovative,” he stated.
Under the theme “Carnival of Renewed Hope: A Pledge to My Country,” the event featured performances from various Nigerian and international artists, reflecting the administration’s commitment to cultural diplomacy and collaboration. Tinubu noted that the carnival has become a significant driver of the country’s creative economy, contributing positively to Nigeria’s GDP.
“The carnival has revitalized local industries, boosted cultural diplomacy, and enhanced Nigeria’s status as a global cultural powerhouse,” he added.
The President also addressed international participants, underscoring the importance of cultural exchange in building bridges and fostering global friendships. “Culture transcends boundaries. Through cultural exchange, we create connections that build understanding and humanity. This carnival is not just a spectacle; it is a home away from home for our guests,” he said.
In his remarks, Tinubu called for deeper reflection on the significance of the event, stressing that it was not merely a celebration but a reminder of the nation’s pledge to peace, unity, and national progress. He commended the Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, along with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and the Abuja International Carnival Secretariat, for their roles in organizing the successful event.
“Our diversity is not just a symbol of our identity; it is a powerful force that strengthens our unity and inspires us to dream bigger for Nigeria,” he said.
Earlier, Minister Musawa, represented by Acting Permanent Secretary Oraelumo Obi Raphael, noted that the carnival is an important platform for showcasing Nigeria’s artistic talent and promoting the nation’s strength in diversity. She also highlighted the event’s competitive nature, which encourages Nigerians to express their creative ingenuity while fostering cultural exchange with international participants.
Nyesom Wike, represented by the Director of Social Welfare in the FCTA, also spoke at the event, emphasizing that the carnival’s theme—“Renewed Hope”—symbolizes Nigeria’s spirit of resilience and unity. He affirmed that the carnival serves as a bridge, connecting various ethnicities, regions, and generations across the nation.
The Abuja International Carnival continues to serve as a testament to the unifying power of culture and Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to promoting its creative industries as an economic and cultural asset.
