Peter Obi Reacts To Presidency Talks, Says Ambition Is Not Driven By Desperation
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has stated that his political ambition is not driven by a desire to desperately occupy Nigeria’s highest office, but by a commitment to see the country function effectively for its citizens.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Obi made this known during an interview on the Nevon HQ podcast hosted by journalist and media personality Rufai Oseni.
The former Labour Party presidential candidate explained that his primary concern is addressing Nigeria’s challenges rather than pursuing power for personal gain.
He said his focus remains on building a country where citizens, particularly young people, can lead productive and meaningful lives.
“I am not desperate to be president of Nigeria. I am desperate to see Nigeria work,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor lamented the hardship faced by many Nigerians, noting that a large number of young people are struggling to find sustainable livelihoods.
“I am desperate to see young people have a means of livelihood. I am desperate to see people stop stealing public money. I am desperate to see Nigeria work,” he added.
Obi also expressed concern over the increasing rate of emigration among Nigerians seeking better opportunities abroad, describing it as a worrying trend given the country’s abundant resources.
He said it was unfortunate that many citizens were leaving Nigeria for countries such as Niger, Ghana, and others in search of opportunities, despite the nation’s vast potential.
Outlining his vision, Obi said national unity would be the foundation of any meaningful transformation under his leadership.
“I will start transformation by uniting this country, bringing it together to be a nation everyone will be proud of,” he said.
He added that his priorities would include social inclusion and reducing poverty across the country.
Obi further noted that Nigeria’s challenges are solvable through deliberate investment in key sectors, particularly education.
According to him, “These things are not rocket science. Countries across the world have done this.”
He maintained that with effective leadership, prudent resource management, and strong investment in human capital, Nigeria can achieve sustainable development and create widespread opportunities for its citizens.
