Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has denied calling for the removal of the Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), Senator George Akume.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
He emphasized the need to address this allegation, as it was being spread by mischief-makers and proxies of the SGF, who are attempting to distract him from the significant developmental progress being made in the state.
The governor made this clarification in a statement released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula.
Alia stressed that the group calling for Akume’s removal does not represent his official position.
The statement clarified, “The individuals behind this misguided action were reportedly appointees of Governor Hyacinth Alia. However, it is important to clarify the context surrounding the call for the SGF’s removal. While the communiqué may reflect the concerns of these appointees, it is crucial to note that it does not represent the Governor’s official stance.”
“The group that issued the statement consists of independent adults who are entitled to express their opinions. They did not claim to speak for Governor Alia nor suggest that their call for action was endorsed by him.”
The statement further explained that the Governor has consistently refrained from publicly criticizing the SGF, despite ongoing provocations from Akume’s political allies, including his wife, a member of the House of Representatives.
“If Governor Alia wanted to call for Akume’s removal, he knows exactly how to do so, just as he communicated his preferences and recommendations when Akume was initially appointed SGF,” the statement added.
Despite the ongoing attacks and public ridicule from Akume’s circle, the Governor has opted for restraint, choosing not to retaliate.
The statement also rejected the claim that Alia orchestrated the call for Akume’s removal, describing it as a misleading narrative aimed at distracting from the state’s real challenges. Governor Alia remains focused on delivering progress and the benefits of democracy to the people of Benue State and will not be swayed by baseless accusations or blackmail.
It is well-known that Governor Alia brings a positive approach to governance, with Benue having long suffered from underdevelopment. “This is not the time to waste such an opportunity,” the statement emphasized.
The Governor is committed to his mandate, prioritizing the interests of Benue State over personal or political grievances, and will not be diverted by baseless claims. The focus should be on governance and the progress of the state.
