Speculation has been circulating that a 40 percent increase in telecom service fees could be implemented soon. If approved, this would mean that services from major operators like MTN, Glo, Airtel, and others would rise by 40 percent. For example, a data bundle priced at N1000 could increase to N1,400 under the new tariff structure expected to take effect in 2025.
However, sources within the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) have denied the rumors of a tariff hike.
This controversy comes as telecom operators have recently threatened to halt operations unless they are granted a tariff increase. Last year, the NCC had consistently rejected requests from telecom operators to raise their rates.
