In a statement issued Wednesday night in Abuja, Ganduje described Obi’s allegations as deliberate mischief and an attempt at emotional blackmail.
“The claim is a malicious lie aimed at seeking attention and playing the victim for emotional blackmail,” Ganduje stated.
Obi had alleged via his verified X handle that APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made threatening remarks about him during a January 4, 2025, interview on Arise TV.
Ganduje, however, refuted the claims, asserting that Morka’s comments were misrepresented.
“At no point did Morka threaten Obi or his family,” Ganduje clarified. “By falsely claiming that Morka threatened his life, Mr. Obi has committed extreme libel and incited his online supporters to issue death threats against Morka and his family.”
The APC Chairman emphasized the importance of public figures providing truthful and accurate information, warning that spreading falsehoods undermines public trust.
Ganduje explained that Morka’s remarks referenced “prophets of doom” and “voodoo economics” and did not constitute or imply any threat.
“Morka was simply performing his duties as the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, holding opposition actors accountable for their statements, as is expected in a democracy,” he added.
Ganduje reiterated the APC’s commitment to free speech, which he said applies to all Nigerians, including opposition figures. He urged Obi to refrain from spreading misinformation and to accept criticism as part of the democratic process.
“Does Mr. Obi expect the APC to remain silent while the opposition spreads falsehoods unchecked?” Ganduje asked, vowing that the APC would continue to counter baseless claims with factual responses.
He concluded by affirming the party’s dedication to democratic principles and defending the Tinubu-led administration against disinformation from opposition parties.
