Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Governor Sule clarified that El-Rufai remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite the Senate’s rejection of his ministerial nomination in August 2023.

Sule, who is a member of the PGF, explained that the processes leading to El-Rufai’s nomination and eventual rejection fall outside the scope of the PGF or the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

He emphasized that decisions regarding ministerial appointments are the responsibility of the president and relevant agencies.

“El-Rufai has not left our party; he remains a member of the APC,” Sule said.

He continued, “What led to El-Rufai’s nomination and his rejection by the Senate or security agencies are not matters we have discussed, either at the Progressives Governors’ Forum or the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. These are issues beyond our purview, and we cannot intervene in matters that do not concern us.

“It is the prerogative of Mr. President to nominate ministers, and he exercised that right. The agencies, including the National Assembly, have the authority to confirm or reject nominations, and in this case, they rejected him.”
