In an interview with The Sun, Sani emphasized that the North is endowed with abundant resources that, if effectively harnessed, could drive regional development.

He highlighted how the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, demonstrated the North’s capacity to stand independently and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s growth.

Sani questioned how governors can justify their inability to pay salaries due to economic reforms, lamenting that the North frequently complains whenever there are changes in economic policies.

He stressed the need for Northern leaders to address key challenges, including security, agriculture, and education.

Sani stated: “First, we must end the insecurity in the North. The bandits, terrorists, and criminals causing havoc are from within Nigeria, and we know who they are. The people of the North must take responsibility for addressing these issues.

“Second, agriculture must be prioritized. With vast land, rivers, lakes, and fertile soil, the North has the potential to feed itself, Nigeria, and even West Africa. But this requires significant investment in agriculture.

“Third, education is vital. Public education should be heavily invested in. Most of today’s leaders were once beneficiaries of free education. It’s time to give back to the society that has nurtured them.”

Sani highlighted the contradiction of having abundant resources yet relying on external support for basic needs, urging leaders to focus on self-reliance and development.
