Iliyasu claimed that Kwankwaso is lobbying President Bola Tinubu to facilitate his defection as part of his broader political ambitions.

Speaking to journalists in Kano on Thursday, the APC chieftain stated that Kwankwaso’s primary goal is to secure a second term for his political protégé, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in 2027.

“We are aware of Kwankwaso’s repeated attempts to gain President Tinubu’s approval to join the APC. His main objective is to guarantee Governor Yusuf’s re-election in the next election cycle,” Iliyasu said.

Currently serving as the Executive Director (Finance) at the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority and a former state Commissioner, Iliyasu urged President Tinubu to reject Kwankwaso’s overtures to join the APC.

He further revealed that NNPP lawmakers in the House of Representatives are preparing to align with the APC, a move he believes will severely weaken the Kwankwasiyya political movement led by Senator Kwankwaso.

“This realignment would be a significant boost for the APC as the party works towards reclaiming Kano in the 2027 general elections,” Iliyasu added.
