The Lagos State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, has announced the new chairpersons for its standing committees.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Meranda made the appointments public during the plenary session on Monday, unveiling the following lawmakers as committee heads: Hon. Temitope Adewale (Business and Rules Committee), Hon. Richard Kasumu (Legislative Compliance Committee), Hon. Setonji David (Ethics, Protocol, and Privileges Committee), Hon. Surajudeen Tijani (House Services Committee), and Hon. Stephen Ogundipe (Information, Strategy, and Security Committee).

However, tensions are brewing within the Assembly as supporters of the ousted former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, are reportedly conspiring to unseat the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.

Despite numerous failed attempts to remove Meranda since her inauguration on January 13, 2025, fresh political maneuvers are underway aimed at reinstating Obasa.

Sources close to the Assembly disclosed to Vanguard over the weekend that Meranda’s position remains precarious, with indications that her ouster could happen at any time.

The latest strategy allegedly involves electing a lawmaker from Lagos West, preferably from Ikeja, after candidates from Ifako-Ijaiye and other constituencies refused the offer, pledging their continued loyalty to Meranda.

It’s also reported that APC leaders sympathetic to Obasa are orchestrating a plan to install a proxy Speaker from the Ikeja constituency. This temporary Speaker would hold office briefly before stepping aside to facilitate Obasa’s return. In a final twist, Obasa is expected to resign once more, making way for another preferred candidate to assume the Speaker’s role.
