PalmPay Partners Nigeria Police In Major Push To Combat Cybercrime And Online Fraud
PalmPay has reaffirmed its commitment to combating cybercrime and promoting safer digital financial services by supporting the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) 2026 Cybersecurity Awareness Walk for the second consecutive year.
The event, held on October 17, 2026, was part of a three-day programme themed “Towards a Resilient Cyberspace.” The initiative was designed to educate Nigerians about emerging cyber threats and encourage responsible and secure online practices.
According to Bush Radio Academy, PalmPay continues to advocate collective action and sustained public education as essential strategies for preventing online fraud and strengthening confidence in digital financial services.
Speaking at the event, PalmPay Nigeria Managing Director, Chika Nwosu, stressed the importance of collaboration and continuous awareness in tackling increasingly sophisticated cyber threats, including phishing and social engineering scams.
Nwosu said the company’s participation in the initiative reflected its determination to help protect Nigerians and contribute to a safer digital environment. He noted that equipping people with the knowledge and tools to identify fraudulent activities was crucial to preventing cybercrime.
He also commended the NPF-NCCC for its efforts to improve public understanding of cybersecurity, adding that technological safeguards alone could not completely eliminate online fraud without consistent customer education.
The PalmPay managing director highlighted the company’s “PalmPay Dey For You” campaign, which educates customers on how to identify scams, use official customer support channels and keep sensitive information, including personal identification numbers (PINs), passwords and one-time passwords (OTPs), confidential.
According to him, combining public awareness with robust digital security systems would help reduce vulnerabilities and promote greater trust in digital transactions.
Also speaking at the programme, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Kenechukwu Onwuemelie said the awareness campaign reflected the Inspector-General of Police’s commitment to a comprehensive approach to internal security through public sensitisation, collaboration with stakeholders and preventive measures.
He urged Nigerians to embrace the campaign’s central message: “Think Before You Click and Verify Before You Share.”
PalmPay also reiterated its commitment to customer protection by encouraging users to take advantage of the security features available in the app’s Security Center and adopt proactive measures to safeguard their accounts.
The company said it would continue to support fraud prevention initiatives and promote secure digital financial practices to help Nigerians conduct online transactions with greater confidence.
