Delivering the ruling on Friday, Justice A. A. Aderibigbe declared all chairmanship, vice-chairmanship, and councillorship positions in the state’s 30 local governments vacant.
The court’s decision favored the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with OSSIEC and its chairman, Hashim Akintunde Abioye, listed as defendants.
The ruling affirmed that the previous local government elections held on October 15, 2022, had been invalidated by a Federal High Court judgment and later upheld by the Court of Appeal in January 2025. As a result, the court mandated OSSIEC to conduct fresh elections to fill the vacancies.
Additionally, the court ordered security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, Army, DSS, NSCDC, NDLEA, Amotekun Corps, and vigilante groups, to ensure security before, during, and after the elections.
