Oyetola Vindicated! Osun Lawmaker Confesses To Faulty EFCC Petition, Issues Public Apology

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Oke criticized the Osun State Government’s decision to petition the anti-corruption agency. The government had asked the EFCC to investigate Oyetola, who is now the Minister of Blue Economy, over the alleged misappropriation of a $20 million World Bank health grant.

Oke, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), called on the EFCC to disregard the petition filed by a legal representative of the state government.

Expressing his disapproval, Oke stated, “I apologize to Gboyega Oyetola for the petition submitted to the EFCC by one of my supposed constituents.”

He further noted that while it is not unlawful for a lawyer to take a legal brief from any individual or the government, it is unethical to accept a brief solely to tarnish someone’s reputation.

Oke also emphasized the role of the Osun State House of Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee and the independent Office of the Auditor General in scrutinizing government expenditures. He pointed out that the Auditor General’s reports are presented to the Assembly annually, and if any irregularities are found, it is the legislature’s responsibility to take action.

Reflecting on the potential impact of the petition, Oke questioned how the federal government could trust Osun State’s willingness to collaborate in the future if such politically motivated actions persist.
