As Nigeria’s political landscape begins to shift ahead of the 2027 general elections, new signals point to former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, preparing to make another run for the presidency — this time as the main contender, not a running mate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This move comes after unsuccessful coalition discussions between Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whose camp allegedly suggested Obi reprise his role as running mate — a position he held in 2019 under the PDP.

Sources close to the matter told The Guardian that Obi is expected to officially declare his 2027 presidential bid in the coming days and could also unveil a new political party platform.

Meanwhile, Atiku is reportedly in advanced talks to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with backing from former Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) stalwarts such as Nasir El-Rufai and Abubakar Malami. Insiders revealed that Atiku has reached a tentative agreement with the ADC and may contest under its umbrella if coalition talks with Obi remain deadlocked.

Dr. Chekwas Okorie, founding national chairman of APGA, confirmed the rising sentiment in the South-East and within the Obidient Movement, stating they would firmly oppose any arrangement where Obi plays a subordinate role. According to him, Obi has now earned his place as a front-runner in Nigeria’s political arena.

“I have reliable information. Peter Obi will not be anyone’s running mate. He held a three-day meeting with Atiku’s team, but both camps couldn’t agree on the vice-presidential offer. Obi has built substantial political capital and will soon declare his presidential ambition, along with the party he plans to use,” Okorie disclosed.

He further hinted at a possible leadership overhaul within the ADC as part of the realignment to accommodate Atiku. “The revamped ADC will likely feature a strong presence of the former CPC structure. What we’re seeing is the early formation of a three-way presidential contest in 2027,” he added.
