This comes amid ongoing efforts by key opposition leaders to form a united front to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. Notable figures involved in the coalition talks include Atiku, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV Wednesday night, Adebayo addressed speculations that Atiku may attempt to use the SDP as his political platform for the next election cycle.

He firmly rejected the idea, stating:

“I will not step down for Atiku Abubakar, and to be clear, he hasn’t asked anyone to step down for him either.
Neither I nor Atiku can use the SDP. This party belongs to the Nigerian people, not to any individual.
If anyone believes in our ideology and principles, they are welcome to join us—but we are not available to be used.”

Adebayo emphasized that any aspirant, including Atiku, must follow due process to earn the party’s nomination.
