Osun APC In Turmoil: Two Aspirants Secretly Woo Aregbesola Amid Power Struggle
Reports have emerged that two Osun State governorship aspirants under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji and Ajibola Basiru, are actively seeking the support of former governor Rauf Aregbesola.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This political maneuver is believed to have been triggered by a recent high-profile meeting between President Bola Tinubu and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, his brother Deji Adeleke, and Afrobeat star Davido, which took place at the President’s residence in Bourdillon, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Sources within the party factions revealed that discontent over Tinubu’s hospitality towards the Adeleke family has prompted key APC figures to realign politically. The move to engage Aregbesola—who previously served as Minister of Interior under President Buhari—is reportedly part of a broader strategy to counterbalance perceived shifts in presidential favour.
Party insiders and supporters had previously voiced frustration with President Tinubu, accusing him of betraying APC interests in Osun and warning of long-term repercussions.
According to Daily Post, sources claim that Tinubu’s meeting with Adeleke has likely dashed hopes that federal institutions could be wielded in favour of the APC during the 2026 governorship race, leading to fresh power recalibrations.
Former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, affirmed this position, stressing that the APC governorship ticket is not for sale and that Governor Adeleke remains unwelcome in APC circles.
A source close to the Bola Oyebamiji camp disclosed that reaching out to Aregbesola is a tactical decision to challenge the Adeleke family’s growing political clout. “Our leaders are reaching out to Aregbesola. Don’t forget, he was our Principal’s original political godfather. There’s no bad blood between Ambo and Ogbeni, so reconciliation is on the table,” the source said.
However, the source could not confirm whether Oyebamiji had sought the endorsement of Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, before initiating talks with Aregbesola’s camp.
Similarly, sources within Ajibola Basiru’s faction said the APC National Secretary has quietly sent emissaries to Aregbesola, appealing for forgiveness over past differences and soliciting his backing ahead of the governorship race.
“We’re already in touch with Ogbeni. Politics is fluid—there are no permanent enemies or friends,” a Basiru loyalist confirmed.
Amid these political manoeuvres, both factions have accused each other of cutting secret deals with Aregbesola, with each side alleging betrayal.
Reports indicate that the rekindled ties with Aregbesola have caught the attention of the Presidency, further fueling discontent among Osun APC leadership.
These developments unfold against the backdrop of mounting criticism from influential Osun APC figures, who have allegedly voiced their displeasure with President Tinubu’s actions in recent weeks.
