Breaking: Edo Governor Okpebholo Announces Fresh Appointment Amid Rising Tension

The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Dr. Amen Ogbemudia as the Director-General of the Directorate of Education Quality Assurance (DEQA).

This was revealed in a statement released to the media on Thursday, June 19, by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.

According to Naija News, Dr. Ogbemudia is a highly experienced educationist with over a decade of expertise in educational management and administration. She holds a B.Sc. Ed in Accounting from Benson Idahosa University, a Master’s degree in Educational Management, and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Benin.

The government further described her as a creative and skilled writer, capacity builder, strategy developer, and motivational speaker.

“It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Dr. Amen Ogbemudia as Director-General of the Directorate of Education Quality Assurance (DEQA),” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Government has confirmed a new outbreak of diphtheria in parts of the state. In response, it has launched an emergency public health campaign aimed at swiftly containing the disease.

In a statement released on Wednesday by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okpebholo, the government reassured the public that the outbreak is under control and that comprehensive measures have been activated.

Governor Okpebholo is reportedly personally leading the coordination efforts, working closely with the State Ministry of Health and key stakeholders.

“The administration has activated an emergency health response, deploying all necessary resources to address the outbreak,” the statement said.

The state also announced that life-saving vaccines have been secured, with plans for a statewide immunisation campaign focusing on vulnerable groups, particularly children.

Hospitals across Edo have been placed on high alert, and medical personnel have been directed to ramp up surveillance, ensure swift isolation of suspected cases, and apply proper treatment protocols as recommended by national and international health authorities.
