National Grid Gets A Jolt! TCN Reveals Transformer Capacity Breakthrough
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a significant enhancement of the national grid, revealing an increase of 5,910 megavolt-amperes (MVA) in transformer capacity.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This update was provided by Aminu Tahir, the General Manager of Project Coordination and Technical Assistant to the MD/CEO, during a briefing on ongoing initiatives under the Project Management Unit (PMU) of TCN.
Tahir explained that the PMU is executing various infrastructure projects funded by the World Bank, Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and the African Development Bank (AfDB). He added that procurement processes are nearing completion for projects supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Lagos and Ogun States.
According to him, several of these projects have already been completed, while others are about 80% complete, collectively contributing the added 5,910 MVA to the national grid.
In a related development, TCN confirmed the restoration of bulk electricity supply through the Kainji–Birnin Kebbi 330kV transmission line at approximately 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday. This follows the earlier collapse of three transmission towers on May 7, caused by a severe windstorm.
TCN had deployed three contractors to carry out emergency repairs. However, progress was temporarily disrupted when another windstorm caused the collapse of three additional towers at Galadima Village, Shanga Local Government Area, Kebbi State. In response, more contractors were mobilised urgently to restore the transmission infrastructure.
“Work continued day and night, in collaboration with our supervising engineers, to ensure speedy restoration,” said Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs. She expressed gratitude to affected communities for their patience and reaffirmed TCN’s commitment to delivering reliable and efficient bulk electricity transmission across the country.
