Tension In Yobe: Government Shuts Down Three Major Markets Over Rising Insecurity

This directive was issued in a statement signed by Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), the Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Mai Mala Buni. The closure, he explained, is a proactive measure to support ongoing security operations and build on the gains made in the fight against insurgency across the state.
The statement emphasized that the move is a temporary safety measure aimed at protecting lives and property in the affected areas.
“While this decision may come with certain hardships, it has become essential in the interest of public safety and the overall success of the security mission,” the statement noted.
He assured residents that the government is working to fast-track the operation to lessen the impact of the market closures on daily life.
The government also called for public cooperation, urging locals to assist security agencies by sharing credible information that could help neutralize criminal threats and safeguard national assets.
