The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has revealed that the commission is actively investigating 18 sitting governors across Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Olukoyede made this known on Friday during a sensitisation event in Lagos, aimed at raising awareness among stakeholders—particularly movie producers and Bureau de Change operators—on the dangers of naira abuse and currency mutilation.

He emphasized that although some governors enjoy constitutional immunity, the EFCC is already scrutinizing their financial activities and will take action once their tenures end. He clarified that the commission does not have to wait until governors leave office to begin investigations.

Citing a dramatic case, Olukoyede narrated how a former governor, under investigation by the EFCC while in office, fled to the UK immediately after handing over power. Coincidentally, during his birthday party at a UK hotel, the ex-governor was seen spraying £50 and £10 notes. Alarmed by the unusual act, the hotel manager contacted emergency services.

“When the police arrived, the manager requested his arrest, believing he was mentally unstable. They almost took him away in an ambulance,” Olukoyede said, adding that the intervention of friends—including two visiting Nigerian governors—prevented further action.
