In a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 27, Eniola explained that her parents had been separated for more than 30 years, long before her father’s passing, yet his relatives still expected her mother to be buried with his surname.

According to her, their anger is also fueled by the fact that she singlehandedly financed her mother’s burial without seeking support from them.

“A little humor in the midst of my grief: My father’s family is dragging me because the burial printings carried my mum’s maiden name as her surname.
They’ve been separated for over three decades—even before his death—yet somehow I’m expected to put his name on her documents.
It’s clear they missed the memo: the woman they once disregarded gave birth to a daughter with wings.

What annoys them more is that nobody can bully me about not contributing a dime. I cared for my mother for 15 years and nursed her through six years of illness. That’s 21 years of devotion—I am more than capable of giving her a befitting farewell.”
