The Enugu State Government has accused Olasijibomi Ogundele, Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, of diverting ₦5.76 billion meant for the construction of 22 Smart Green Schools across the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ogundele, who is currently wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged money laundering and misappropriation of funds, had released a tearful video denying any wrongdoing and vowing to clear his name.

But in a Friday statement, the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Malachy Agbo, dismissed Ogundele’s claims as theatrics, insisting that the developer failed woefully in his contractual obligations.

Agbo explained that the contract, worth over ₦11.4 billion, was awarded on July 2, 2024, with the state government paying 50% upfront—₦5.76 billion—to accelerate the work. Instead, he said, the projects were abandoned.

“Rather than deliver quality schools in line with the structural specifications and the government’s priority for the Smart Green Schools initiative, Ogundele resorted to shoddy jobs, deploying quacks and inexperienced engineers. None of the sites met the required structural standards,” the commissioner said.

According to the government, all attempts to reach Ogundele for progress meetings or site inspections failed, as he allegedly ignored calls, messages, and official invitations. Even during joint inspections conducted by the Ministry of Works and the EFCC in May 2025, it was discovered that little to no work had been done across the project sites nearly a year after the contract was awarded.

The government further alleged that although Ogundele had presented a Jaiz Bank bond to secure the deal, the ₦5.76 billion was paid into Sujimoto Luxury Construction’s account but never utilized for the projects, suggesting what it called “a premeditated intent to defraud the state.”

Consequently, the state has reassigned the school projects to new contractors to ensure completion before the 2025 school resumption, vowing that every kobo would be recovered.

“Theatrics and crocodile tears will not save Mr. Ogundele. Ndi Enugu’s money must and will be recovered,” the statement concluded.
