At the Government House in Port Harcourt, Ibas carried out his final duty by inaugurating Dr. Irringi Brown as the substantive Head of Service. He later addressed the state in a farewell broadcast, reflecting on his tenure and urging Rivers people to rally behind the reinstated governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
According to The Nation, Ibas appeared in his signature blue kaftan and trademark glasses, exuding calm confidence as he stepped out of his office for the last time.
Accompanied by senior security aides—some clutching files—the retired naval chief walked steadily toward the entrance doors of the Government House. With his hands tucked in his pockets, he paused briefly, scanned the familiar surroundings, offered a faint smile, and made his way to his waiting Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).
One of his aides swung the door open, and Ibas made a spirited leap into the car before signaling for his convoy to depart. Moments later, his motorcade—headlights piercing the night—rolled smoothly through the first gate of the Government House and disappeared into the midnight darkness.
