Nigeria is set to face Gabon in the semifinals, with the winner advancing to play either Cameroon or DR Congo for a spot in the intercontinental playoffs scheduled for March 2026 in Mexico. Only one of the four nations will secure a place at the World Cup.

CAF has confirmed that both semifinals will be played on Thursday, November 13, with the final slated for Sunday, November 16, at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat. The Super Eagles’ semifinal against Gabon is expected to take place at either the 18,000-capacity El-Barid Stadium or the 22,000-capacity Prince Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex, with CAF set to conduct a draw later today to determine the hosting venues.

An NFF source revealed that preparations are in full swing to ensure nothing is left to chance. “Everything is being handled by the NSC and NFF to leave no stone unturned. That special spirit that saw the team score the four goals needed against Benin Republic on the final day of qualifiers will drive them to success in the playoffs,” the source told Punch.

The official added that communication with the players has already begun. “The camp opens in Rabat on Sunday, November 9. We are in touch with the players, and everyone is aligned. All preparations required for victory are underway, and the players are motivated by their ambition to feature at the FIFA World Cup finals,” he said.

The playoff matchups were determined based on FIFA’s latest world rankings released on October 17, which ranked Nigeria among the top second-placed teams from the qualifiers. Nine African teams have already qualified automatically for the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, while the upcoming Morocco playoffs will decide which of the remaining four nations earns the final ticket to the global stage.
