By late October and into November 2025, the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly used for cooking, has spiked dramatically across Nigeria — adding more strain to households already battling inflation and rising living costs.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Market surveys from major cities reveal that a standard 12.5 kg cylinder of cooking gas now sells between ₦15,000 and ₦16,500, marking one of the steepest increases in recent months. In some parts of Lagos and other urban centres, the price per kilogram has climbed to between ₦2,500 and ₦3,000.

Several key factors are behind this latest surge:

1. Supply Disruptions:
Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), the country’s top LPG producer, reportedly reduced its supply due to maintenance activities at its Bonny Island plant, creating a temporary shortage. The recent strike action by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) also delayed product loading and distribution nationwide.

2. Currency and Transportation Challenges:
The persistent decline of the naira has further increased the cost of gas imports and components priced in foreign currency. Additionally, rising diesel prices, poor road conditions, and high transport costs have compounded the problem, making distribution more expensive.

3. Rising Demand and Capacity Gaps:
The federal government’s clean-cooking initiative has boosted demand for LPG. However, Nigeria’s bottling, storage, and distribution infrastructure has not kept pace, resulting in structural shortages and frequent price hikes.
