The position was announced in a statement released on the party’s official account on Friday. The PDP emphasized that the convention will pave the way for the election of a new National Working Committee (NWC) and strengthen the party’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“With just eight days to the landmark PDP National Elective Convention, the party is firing on all cylinders, ready to elect a dynamic new NWC and solidify its unbreakable unity as Nigeria’s premier opposition force gears up for a triumphant return in 2027,” the statement read.

The historic #Ibadan2025 gathering is set to take place at the fully refurbished Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan, and will host over 3,000 delegates from Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“This two-day spectacle is more than a leadership transition—it is a bold declaration of renewal, reconciliation, and resilience, positioning the PDP to dismantle the APC’s grip on power and restore hope to millions of Nigerians weary of economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failures,” the party added.

Despite internal divisions and ongoing crises within the party, the PDP said the convention will go ahead following an interim ruling by Justice A. L. Akintola of the Oyo State High Court, which approved the event. This decision came hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered the convention to be suspended.

“The Oyo State High Court issued a resounding interim order clearing the path for the convention, mandating INEC to monitor proceedings in full compliance with electoral laws. This ruling affirmed the PDP’s constitutional rights and internal democracy,” the statement said.

The National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC), chaired by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, confirmed that preparations are running smoothly. Delegate accreditation is underway, aspirant screenings are complete, and logistics—including enhanced security, modern facilities, and virtual streaming for nationwide participation—have been fully secured.
