The announcement was made on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Usman, in a statement. The affected members include:
-
Hajiya Kaka Ibrahim Wabi – Permanent Member I
-
Haruna Arafat Abubakar Magaji – Permanent Member II
-
Barr. Maryam Kolo – Permanent Member III
-
Abdul Razak Mu’azu Jikantoro – Permanent Member IV

According to Usman, the decision forms part of Governor Bago’s ongoing efforts to reposition and strengthen the education sector, aiming for enhanced efficiency, accountability, and improved service delivery.
All outgoing board members and the Secretary have been instructed to transfer official documents, assets, and responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
The SSG further stated that the Governor appreciates the service and contributions of the former board members and Secretary to the growth and development of basic education in Niger State and wished them success in their future endeavors.
Meanwhile, Governor Bago recently sparked controversy among religious leaders after announcing that clerics must obtain licenses within two months and submit their sermons for review. During a TVC interview, he declared:
“Everyone going to sermon on Friday should bring his scriptures for review.”
The policy has sparked debates, with some viewing it as a bold step toward peace, while others fear potential infringements on freedom of worship.
In defense of the policy, the Director-General of Niger State Religious Affairs, Umar Farooq, explained that the initiative revives an existing 1985 edict, stating:
“We have a law in Niger State… this edict has been in place since 1985. We are simply reviving it to ensure peaceful environments and prevent tensions.”
