Senate Responds To Sh*cking $10 Million Bribe Accusation Involving Tinubu’s Nominee
The Senate has dismissed claims that its leadership accepted a $10 million bribe to block the confirmation of President Bola Tinubu’s nominee for Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Abdullahi Ramat.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The allegation was made by Alwan Hassan, a former Special Adviser to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and another APC chieftain, sparking controversy over Ramat’s confirmation process.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu called the claims baseless, insisting that Ramat’s screening was postponed due to “public and private complaints” lodged against him, not any financial inducement.
Adaramodu noted that the Senate has previously stepped down nominees following adverse petitions and would not be pressured into confirming any appointee under public scrutiny.
He also accused Hassan of attempting to blackmail the Senate and said the former aide would be compelled in court to produce evidence of the alleged $10 million bribe.
“The attention of the Senate has been drawn to the uncoordinated claims of Alwan Hassan, who is acting as a tool for Mr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat. For clarity, many nominees have been stepped down due to public outcry, and Ramat’s case is no exception,” Adaramodu said.
“Alwan has ludicrously alleged that the Senate was compromised by undisclosed actors to reject Ramat’s nomination. The truth is that Ramat faces a range of public and private complaints related to his nomination.
“No one can drag the National Assembly into disrepute with unfounded allegations to pressure the legislature. The Senate will engage Mr. Alwan in court to substantiate his claims. We had no prior dealings with Ramat until his nomination, and the Senate is obligated to consider concerns raised by the public he was nominated to serve.”
Meanwhile, Ramat’s confirmation remains suspended, pending further legislative and public review.
