Sh*ck Arrest: Ex-Kano Anti-Graft Chairman Reveals Reason Behind Police Action
The immediate past Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, has disclosed that his recent arrest and detention by the police were linked to his role as lead prosecutor in a multi-billion-naira case against former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his family.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Rimin-Gado was apprehended on Friday, December 5, 2025, by heavily armed operatives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Squad from Abuja and held for over 24 hours.
Upon his release on Saturday, he revealed that the arrest was aimed at obstructing the ongoing prosecution of the Dala Inland Dry Port ownership scandal. Since leaving PCACC, Rimin-Gado has returned to legal practice and is leading the prosecution in the high-profile case.
He alleged that, upon arrival in Abuja under heavy police escort, he was served with fresh court charges relating to defamation and malicious accusations. Questioning the legality of the move, he asked, “If not in Nigeria, tell me where a suspect on trial would refuse to defend himself and instead hire police to arrest the lead prosecutor on defamation charges?”
Rimin-Gado recounted that he was forcibly taken from his Kano office, crammed into a vehicle, and driven overnight to Abuja, while officers declined his request to see an arrest warrant. He added that he has been released on bail, with instructions to report back in Abuja on Wednesday, and was required to surrender his international passport.
The Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkareem Maude SAN, had earlier raised concerns about the arrest, confirming that about 40 armed officers carried out the operation without a warrant. The AG suggested that the action targeted Rimin-Gado because he possessed “critical, firsthand, and well-documented evidence” against politically exposed persons in Kano, claiming the timing was designed to impede justice.
The Dala Inland Dry Port case centers on a multi-billion-naira lawsuit filed by the Kano State Government against former Governor Ganduje, his children, and associates. The suit alleges that the state’s 20 percent equity stake in the port was “unlawfully and fraudulently” transferred to private individuals, including members of the Ganduje family, and seeks to recover ₦4.49 billion allegedly misappropriated during Ganduje’s tenure to fund private infrastructure at the port.
The former governor, who also served as the immediate past National Chairman of the APC, has not publicly responded to developments regarding the arrest of the lead prosecution counsel.
