In an interview with Oyinmomo TV, the soulful vocalist narrated how her childhood was divided between two homes following her parents’ separation.

She explained that her early years were spent with her maternal grandmother in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, where she embraced Islamic teachings and lived according to the principles of a Muslim household.

However, her journey took a new turn when she relocated to Ikorodu, Lagos, to live with her paternal family. There, she reconnected with a childhood friend who regularly invited her to church. This exposure introduced her to a new community, a different form of worship, and fresh perspectives.

Allyson maintained that she holds no resentment toward her Islamic roots and has always proudly acknowledged her birth name, Rasheedat, describing how she once researched its meaning and cherished its significance.

She emphasized that her spiritual growth was largely shaped by the environments she found herself in — Islam in Ijebu-Ode and Christianity in Ikorodu — adapting naturally to the beliefs of those she lived with.

Over the years, her exploration of faith deepened through personal study and life experiences. She stressed that understanding God’s purpose for her life remains far more important than conforming to a single religious label.

Because she was raised among people of diverse beliefs, she said she now relates comfortably with followers of different faiths.

Allyson also recalled a defining moment in her music journey — January 17, 1997 — the day she attended a music training session at a Celestial Church of Christ, which marked a clearer direction for her career.
