Governor Adeleke had announced his switch to Accord on Tuesday, citing ongoing turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
However, the Imumolen-led faction insists that Adeleke did not comply with the party’s established procedures, casting doubt on the legitimacy of both his defection and his recent clearance as the party’s sole governorship candidate.
According to TVC, party sources warn that the development could destabilize internal unity and exacerbate existing political tensions. They note that the fallout may have significant consequences ahead of the upcoming elections, potentially influencing voter confidence and shifting political alliances within the state.
Despite the objections, Adeleke on Wednesday emerged as Accord’s governorship candidate for the 2026 election, securing 145 votes at the party’s primary.
Announcing the results, the Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Abdulazeez Salaudeen, stated that five votes were invalid.
“The electoral committee has fulfilled its mandate. After voting and counting—witnessed by candidate agents and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission—Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke, having scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary,” Salaudeen said.
