Tension In Ikeja As FCCPC Enforces Shutdown On Power Firm For Anti-Consumer Practices
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed the offices of Ikeja Electric over alleged violations of consumer rights and failure to comply with regulatory directives.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to the FCCPC’s Director of Surveillance and Investigation, Bola Adeyinka, the enforcement action was carried out in line with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018.
“Sealing this facility is a proportionate enforcement measure taken only after repeated engagement and several opportunities for voluntary compliance,” Adeyinka said in a statement issued on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
He noted that the seal will remain until Ikeja Electric “fully complies with directives issued by both NERC and the FCCPC and submits written proof of compliance.”
The Commission explained that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had earlier ordered Ikeja Electric to split a Maximum Demand account into 20 non-Maximum Demand accounts. The directive required the electricity distribution company to recognise 19 residential units and a service point belonging to a complainant as separate customers, and to provide appropriate metering and connections for each.
“Ikeja Electric did not carry out that decision,” the FCCPC stated.
The Commission further revealed that the complainant has been without electricity for over two and a half years, despite paying all charges and fulfilling every requirement demanded by the Disco.
“This has prevented the complainant from using the nineteen residential units,” the statement added.
The FCCPC said it had repeatedly engaged Ikeja Electric and reminded the company of the outstanding NERC directive. In April 2025, it issued a compliance directive outlining clear steps and timelines, yet no action was taken.
On October 2, 2025, the Commission issued a Compliance Notice demanding full compliance within seven business days, but the company still failed to act.
As of the time of this report, Ikeja Electric has not responded to the development.
