The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has dismissed claims suggesting that he has declared interest in contesting the Abia State governorship election in 2027.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement released on Sunday, his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, described the report—attributed to an online platform known as Native Reporters—as baseless, misleading, and lacking in credibility.

According to the statement, Kalu has neither privately nor publicly announced any intention to seek the governorship of Abia State in the 2027 election.

Nwabughiogu stressed that the Deputy Speaker remains focused on completing his four-year mandate as the representative of Bende Federal Constituency and on discharging his duties to Nigerians with commitment and diligence.

He further called on the media outlet responsible for the report to retract the publication and uphold professional journalistic standards, while warning against the dangers of spreading unverified information. Media organizations were urged to confirm facts before dissemination.

The statement also noted that any future political decisions or ambitions of the Deputy Speaker would be formally communicated by his political team at the appropriate time.

Meanwhile, Naija News reports that the denial comes amid growing political speculation in Abia State. Although Kalu has previously expressed optimism about the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning the state in 2027, he has not confirmed any personal ambition to contest the governorship.
