The 27-year-old made unwanted history, becoming the first Valencia player to score both for and against the club in a single Spanish competition match.
Sadiq’s night began in the 26th minute when he inadvertently deflected a dangerous free kick into his own net while trying to clear under pressure, giving Bilbao an early lead.
Showing resilience just 10 minutes later, he capitalized on a costly error by Bilbao goalkeeper Alex Padilla, calmly slotting the ball into an empty net to level the score and lift Valencia’s spirits.
Despite the home side’s fightback, Bilbao struck late. Ghanaian forward Iñaki Williams netted in the sixth minute of stoppage time, handing Valencia a heartbreaking defeat and eliminating them from the Copa del Rey.
Following the match, Valencia coach Carlos Corberán defended Sadiq, emphasizing the striker’s effort and dedication.
“I didn’t see Sadiq’s gesture, but I know he was eager to score, and an own goal is always tough,” Corberán said. “He’s worked hard, and no player wants to concede an own goal.”
Sadiq’s equalizer marked his second Copa del Rey goal since returning to Valencia in the winter transfer window, after previously scoring in the 2-0 win over Burgos CF.
