Reports indicate that the insurgents intercepted two articulated trucks and three dump trucks loaded with beans destined for Maiduguri.
The attack occurred on Saturday along the Monguno–Guzamala road, specifically between Burmari and Garin Kashim communities in Guzamala Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants set the truck heads ablaze before escaping into surrounding bush paths.
One of the drivers recounted abandoning his vehicle and fleeing for safety when the attack began.
He added that the attackers were believed to be the same group responsible for a similar assault on trucks transporting maize and construction materials in the area about five days earlier.
Another witness disclosed that the insurgents first punctured the tyres of the vehicles before setting them on fire. According to him, local residents managed to extinguish the flames before they spread to the trailer bodies, enabling the drivers to escape without injuries.
Truck drivers plying the route lamented the lack of security presence, noting that unlike other high-risk roads in the state, the axis lacks adequate military deployment.
Following the recurring attacks, several truck owners have reportedly withdrawn their vehicles from the route due to safety concerns.
